Aussie 7s star Sharni Williams will play at home with the University of Canberra Women’s Rugby 7s for the first time in the final Aon University Sevens tournament this weekend.
On Sunday, the third Aon University Sevens Series will draw to a close and one university will claim the number one spot.
Despite being part of the UC7s squad for three years, this will be Canberra’s first opportunity to see Williams in years.
With the UC7s sitting fourth on the later, Williams, who is coming off the first leg of the World Series, will play a big role in settling scores.
Head Coach Liam McGrath said Williams should draw in a great crowd over the weekend.
“It’s a rare opportunity not only watch Sharni but also some of the best 7s players in Australia and around the world. The National team only play once a year in Australia, so to see them play at this level in the University Sevens Series is pretty special.
“Sharni playing this weekend isn’t going to be a massive change for the girls because she has been such a constant voice around the program over the last three years. She watches all the games and gives me and the girls feedback so to actually have her playing is only going to amplify her impact on the team,” said McGrath.
Outside Williams’ return, this weekend’s playing team is consistent with those who have pushed UC to their most successful Series so far.
UC will play in Pool A against University of Sydney, University of Adelaide, University of Western Australia and the University of Melbourne.
UC will play the first game on Saturday against Adelaide at 9am.
