The University of Canberra Women’s Rugby Sevens (UC 7s) have released the team list ahead of Round 2 of the Aon University Sevens Series at Bond University in Queensland this weekend.
The UC 7s had a slow start to the Series winning two out of six games during the tournament and finished seventh on the ladder.
This weekend’s team features many of returning players from Round 1 including Rachel Crothers, Darcy Read and Lilyann Mason-Spice.
Four new names have been added to the list including UC 7s foundation player Sammie Wood and former University of Queensland player Kobe Nona.
Aroha Spillane is out recovering from a concussion from Round 1 along with Ainslie Scrivener who is resting her ankle as she manages an ongoing injury.
The two national team players, Sharni Williams and Yasmin Meakes, have been made unavailable due to national team commitments.
“We picked up a couple injuries in Round 1 and decided that rather than to push them in this tournament, we’d give an extra two weeks to recover which has opened up a couple extra spots on the travelling team,” said Head Coach Liam McGrath.
“If you look at the side, there’s a couple new faces in Gilroy and Dawa but both have Super W experience. Nona and Wood both have Uni 7s experience over the last two years.
“If we start the tournament the way we finished Round 1, we are going to be right in the mix for a top half of the table finish.”
