Five University of Canberra athletes will compete in the 2019 Summer Universiade Games to be held over two weeks in July in Naples, Italy.
The Universiade Games is the largest multi-sport international tournament outside the Olympic Games and features almost 10,000 student athletes across 18 disciplines from around the world.
It will be the 25th time the event will take place and is the pinnacle of university elite sport, giving students the opportunity to compete on a level which mirrors the Olympics.
This year’s games, held between 3-14 July, follows UC’s representation at the 2017 event in Taipei, China, where more than half a dozen students competed.
The athletes representing UC this year are:
- Bryce Anderson – Athletics
- Jess Bell – Athletics
- Keely Froling – Basketball
- Abigail Wehrung – Basketball
- Nicholas Taylor – Water Polo
The athletes will will live in the village with fellow competitors and will be put through same conditions as those competing at the Olympics.
