UC Firebirds Win 3rd Consecutive Title

 

The University of Canberra Firebirds have secured their 3rd consecutive championship and their 10th since their inaugural season in 1993 and caps off a third consecutive unbeaten season bring their unbeaten run to 29 games over three years.

 

The Firebirds faced off against the Centurions who were making their first final appearance. It was a slow start for both teams with the scores locked at 0 – 0 after the first quarter.

 

Finally, in the 2nd quarter the Firebirds opened up the scoring with a strong carry between the has marks from James Thornhill this would be his 23rd and final touchdown for the season.

 

Shortly afterward Shaquille Gardener went off for a 60 yard catch and run to have the score sitting at 14 – 0 midway through the 2nd quarter.

 

On the next series UC Firebirds all-time passing yards leader Luke Job threw a pick six which was returned by Justin Wilson to open up the scoring for the Centurions.

 

Job would immediately makes amends by running in for a 3 yard touchdown just before half time giving the Firebirds a 22 – 6 lead at half time.

 

The centurions would remain scoreless for the rest of the game and Shaquille Gardener would run in one more time in the fourth quarter to give the Firebirds a 29 – 6 Victory and a 10th championship.
