Three players from the University of Canberra Women’s 7’s were announced as the ACTAS and ACT Brumbies unveiled their Women’s 7s Academy Program, a joint initiative from Brumbies/ACTAS supported by Rugby Australia.


Kirra Burke, Michaela Leonard and Claudia Obst are amongst those who have been selected to be the initial academy program athletes in the program.


The program aims to ID promising young women’s 7’s talent and foster their growth with professional coaching and by providing an elite pathway in association with the state’s Super Rugby franchise.


Incorporating facilities at ACTAS, the AIS, and University of Canberra, the athletes will also enter intensive, fully fledge camps of the highest level to enhance their playing skills.


Rugby Australia, the Brumbies and ACT Government, through ACTAS, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a Women’s Rugby 7’s Academy Program through to December 2020.
