Wednesday afternoon saw a flurry of social sport action with the UC Sport & UC Life Mixed Netball Tournament.

With names as ferocious as some of the netball on display, 70 players across eight teams vied for bragging rights and a $500 cash prize in the social event.

Split into groups of two, each team played a minimum of three group games, with the top two in each group securing a semifinal berth.

The stage was then set for the knockout semi-finals and just like the names of the social teams, the quality of play did not disappoint.

‘Litball’ looked everywhere to pull out a killing blow in their first semi-final, with some end-to-end netball on display.

However, ‘Goal Diggers’ showed resolve to hold their nerve and snatch a decisive 15-11 win and their chance at the big prize.

The other semifinal was contested by the aptly named ‘Netball and Chill’ and ‘Netball Hoes and Sporting Bros‘, with some quality social netball on display.

However, ‘Netball and Chill’ proved they had very little of the latter, snaring a win in a very close encounter.

In the end, it came down to the two sides – ‘Netball and Chill’ and ‘Goal Diggers’ as to who would take home the chocolates.

With a guaranteed case of Redbull on offer for both sides, the scores were level well into the second half of play, before Goal Diggers dug deep to pull away in the end, running away 16-13 victors.

In a true testament to the day’s activities, Ryan Armstrong was voted Players’ Player of the Tournament, translating some of his silky basketball skills to the netball court.
