The UC 7’s will showcase some international flair this season following the return of American lock Abby Gustaitis for the upcoming AON University 7’s competition.
The 27-year-old Sevens star, who earned her ‘wings’ for the Eagles over the last two years, starred at the Women’s World Cup in Ireland last year, catching the eye of the UC coaching staff.
With seven caps in the 15-a-side game for the United States, and a full season for the Eagles on the 7s world series circuit. Gustaitis will be looking to continue her top form, kicking off with the AON University 7’s opener in Hobart on Saturday, August 25.
The former Basketballer will join fellow converts in Samantha Wood and Yasmin Meakes, and will add some key strength to the UC 7’s forwards.
The AON University 7’s competition is one of only a few competitions that sees the elite of Australian Women’s Sevens combine with those striving to make their own name in the sport at a grassroots level.
Hailing from the University of Maryland, Gustiatis holds degrees in Neurology and Physiology, and is sure to be a delight to the blue and white faithful as University of Canberra look to snare a maiden title in 2018.
