UC7s Alumni on International Stage

 

In what has been a big week for the UC7s side, 5 players have been selected for international duty.

Australian Universities

 

Sophie Quirk who played in two tournaments for the UC7s side in 2017 was been selected to represent the Uni Roo’s at the Summer Universiade in Namibia.

 

Finishing 2nd in their pool they were faced a tough South African Universities side in the Semi Final and cruised to a 31 – 10 Victory. In the final they faced France who had given Australian universities their only loss of the tournament. Australia while valiant fell short and were defeated by the French 24 – 7.

In other news Yasmin Meakes, Cassie Staples and Sharni Williams have all been selected to represent Australia at the upcoming Rugby 7s World Cup in San Francisco. Yasmin and Cassie played in every tournament on the 2017 Aon Uni 7s series while Sharni played in the last two legs.

Team USA

 

The last selection to announce is Abby Gustaitis. Abby Represented the University in 4 or the 5 legs of the Aon Uni 7s Series in 2017. Off the back of strong performances throughout the year in the HSBC world series Abby has been selected for team USA for the Rugby 7s World Cup.

 

You can catch Abby’s first game against China on Saturday July 21st at 5.34am.
